Well I re-listened to 4/13/69 after having not listened to the show for several years. I don't have the Miller upgrade but I do have Cotsman's remaster. I really liked the outro jam on Morning Dew as well as the high-energy Dark Star and nicely jammed Eleven.

It's a solid '69 performance but really not much more than that. I would score it in the low to mid 90's. Hard for me to understand how it makes your top-ten for 1969 when 11/8 and 12/30 don't.

yah i realize its pretty subjective, i don't expect you to agree with me on that one. i don't always pick favorite shows based on qualities that are the most unique or superlative necessarily...its kind of what "hits" me the hardest. i do feel after repeated listens that the playing on this show is really strong, but much of it is Garcia driven; minus the Dark Star its not as much of a "fingers of the same hand" kind of performance the way that maybe 2/28 is. but like i said its a pretty under the radar show and certainly there are other, more unique performances that many would place far ahead of it. I highly recommend listening to the Miller transfer, it sounds great!

while i do much enjoy 11/8 for its very unique jams, its always been a show that doesn't quite gel with me right, in the way that these others do. call me crazy, but i really can't put my finger on it exactly. the whole of fall '69 and a lot of 1970 certainly has a far different feel than late '68- early '69; deliberate, slower tempos, and spacier, more open jamming, which of course makes for some incredible performances (some of my favorite shows, like 11/2/69 or 2/13/70) but just doesn't quite do it for me like the fast paced, fluid jamming of earlier in the year, that "bare wires" intensity you talked about.

same goes for 12/30, though i must admit that like 6/23/74, i'm also not as familiar with that show...i've tried to get into it a few times and its been a little difficult for me. i will definitely be giving that one some more listens though, it seems to be a highly regarded performance by many...
